Espresso Workshop - "Mind your Grinds"


David and Andrew formed the coffee company, Espresso Workshop, in 2007.  The company is a boutique coffee roastery and operates an espresso bar from 2 Owens Road in Epsom.  David and Andrew are advocates of quality coffee; their mutual objective is to prepare coffee so that it has the best chance of fulfilling its flavour potential.

"Espresso Workshop is a destination for those seeking a specialty coffee experience, not only for the coffee you consume in our espresso bar, but also for those that seek a wider coffee knowledge. To put it simply, Espresso Workshop is a forum for our passion to talk and drink coffee". 

David Huang
David has been working in hospitality for over 10 years and is dedicated to establishing himself as one of the industry leaders.  David is a committed competitor in Barista competitions.  In the 2009 Barista championships David placed 1st in the Auckland Region and 3rd in the National Finals.  David has also represented New Zealand in the Trans Tasman series against Australia in 2006, 2007 and 2009.  In addition, David is an experienced Barista trainer, previously for Allpress Espresso and now for the Manukau Institute of Technology and Espresso Workshop’s in house training courses.

Andrew Smart
Focused on the coffee roasting side of the business Andrew’s methodological approach means that Espresso Workshop coffee has been deeply scrutinised by the time it reaches the packing bags.  Andrew has almost 5 years of roasting experience and takes particular interest in obtaining an in-depth understanding of the beans that he roasts with.  Much of Andrew’s time is focused on analysing coffee flavours and imparting his knowledge to anyone that will listen.
