Wild days at Boomrock

Most shooting enthusiasts look for an opportunity to sharpen their skills before heading to the maimai at the beginning of the shooting season in May. There is no better place to do this than at the annual Duck Shooters events held at Boomrock, located just out of Wellington.

After cooking at Boomrock several times a year in conjunction with their Mercedes-Benz client events, I’m also hosting with Boomrock on 29th & 30th July as an open day where anyone is welcome to join us for an afternoon of outstanding food & wine. I’m itching to get back to take part in their annual Duck Shooters Lunches.

These events held throughout April start with a morning shoot at “The Bunkers”, Boomrock’s new 5 Stand simulated duck and driven pheasant fields. The Bunkers are set amongst tranquil native bush, 250 metres above the Tasman Sea with spectacular views out to the South Island, the views take my breath away every time I visit. Shooters are split into teams and are pitted against each other in a light hearted competition!

Jonny Eastwick owner of Boomrock starts with a fine welcome, some professional instruction is offered if required and Boomrock Venison Sausages straight from the BBQ ensure shooters have the energy to tackle the morning ahead. Once you’ve blown the cobwebs out of your guns the targets start flying.

After working up a serious appetite guests head to the Lodge for a taste of the wild, a sumptuous 5 course lunch matched with superb NZ wine and prepared by chef Mark Hartstonge.

Hope to see you there.
