Lunch at Logan Brown for $3.50

We came to be involved in the 350 movement back in August this year when some friends invited me to go see The Age of Stupid at the Paramount. This is a film produced by a New Zealand documentary maker Lizzie Gillet, that talks about climate change from the perspective of future generations looking back at 2008 asking: why didn’t we stop climate change while we had the chance? I found it really powerful and decided that we needed to do something to help and the other directors at Logan Brown were right behind me. Along with some really passionate people from 350.org.nz we came up with the idea of the $3.50 lunch to raise awareness around the issue of climate change and particularly to let people know about the International Day of Climate Action festival on 24 October.
Why 350? I didn’t know this before the movie but 350 refers to the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (in parts per million), which scientist have deemed the maximum safe level to prevent catastrophic climate change. Their goal, this year, is to get the Government to agree a 40 per cent emission reduction by 2020 at the UN climate summit at Copenhagen in December. Greenpeace have a similar mission and you can get behind it at
http://www.signon.org.nz. A 40% reduction by 2020 is what scientists recommend is necessary to meet the 350 target.
Our aim in supporting this is twofold; firstly to get Wellingtonians to find out about 350 and to encourage Mr Key to go for 40% reduction at Copenhagen and secondly, to get them to think about their own carbon footprint and take some steps, personally, to reduce it. We are just starting to take steps ourselves to reduce our own footprint both professionally and personally. Michelle from Wellington Regional Council is helping us become more sustainable with an initiative they are running called eMission. We’re still far from perfect but at least it’s a start!
So to score a bistro lunch for less than the price of a latte go to
http://www.350.org.nz/Wellington or
http://www.signon.org.nz/lunch and enter their quick online competition. The competition closes on 14th October so don’t delay!
All entrants will also be in with a chance to win tickets to an exclusive showing of the movie that sparked it all, The Age of Stupid, thanks to the help of our friends at the Paramount. You guessed it – there will be 350 tickets up for grabs for $3.50 each!
350 have some other great events happening on and around 24 October that you can check out or you can find out how to Sign On to the Greenpeace petition. In any case we look forward to seeing the 80 lucky winners for lunch on the 21 October.
