Try Mondial Bar on Great North Road at the Grey Lynn Shops.
This being a Spanish Tapas bar which is gaining immense popularity.
The dishes are devine and well priced, The Sangria is also worth a mention.

I loved Two Fifteen Bistro and Wine Bar on Mt Eden. Grand Harbour is great for Yum Char, though I tend to go to Grand Park in Greenlane (same owners, closer location).
I noticed there were several mentions of Malaysian restaurants. I write a food blog (easyfoodhacks.blogspot.com) and have joined the Makan ('eat' in Malaysian) Squad for the Malaysia Kitchen Programme (www.malaysiakitchen.co.nz). I will be reviewing one Malaysian eatery each fortnight until the end of October.
I have a list of Malaysian restaurants on my blog which the dining schedule will chose from (I don't know yet how the schedule will run). Happy to hear suggestions and do let me know if there are any which have been missed off the list.

I tried an Italian restaurant called "Sal Rose" in Mt Albert a little while ago - they had decent prices, delicious food and a great atmosphere.
Also, a couple of places that I go back to time and time again are Mutiara (Malaysian) on Ponsonby Rd and also Sawadee (Thai) which is just down the road.

Come out to Pukekohe and try the Monarch Cafe - consistently good food and service in lovely surroundings. You won't be disappointed.

Delicious in Grey Lynn has been consistently great for 10 years. Now that it has changed hands the service problems are all gone. The food remains sublime.

KK Malaysian, Epsom - (I nearly spelt it KKK Malaysian) about the closet to sitting in KL itself.
Always busy, always a line waiting for their take out, but efficient fast service with the most flavour packed amazing food for decent prices, a gem I wish there were more of them, especially one closer to my home.

Best cheap and cheerful, Hana Hana on Quay Street. Amazing Japanese food and great service, its very small, cosy and super yum!
Best fine dining Clooney Auckland CBD! Just the all over package with friendly staff, Riedel glass, innovative gorgeous food that is never OTT.
Best Indian, Satya K Road.
Best brunch Kohi Cafe on Tamaki Drvie (try the bloody Mary)
Best yum cha, The Grand Harbour
Best for a large group, Starry Kitchen corner Stanley St and Parnell Rise. Book a table with seats as the couches are low, and if you stay away from the " baked" menu, everything is cooked to perfection by a very skilled Malaysian chef.

Wrong again, currently Marvel Grill, 32 Anzac St, Takapuna. A meat lovers paradise, from the same people who bought us "Vivace" I believe, been there twice superb and going back again, food, service and style a big plus for the shore.

LizH way off "Sake Nippon" in Epsom, Japanese grunge at it's best, they beat the drum when I walk in and shower me with sake, always busy noisey and just downright cool!

Best Auckland Restaurant.... So what Do You Think?
I'm gonna say St Tropez in Parnell - amazing food at decent prices, with awesome service! So delicious, i could have picked anything on the menu, but went with the chicken which was just superb! The Tarte Tatin desert is also a must - cooked to perfection!
But in saying that I also love Litlle Italy in the CBD - sure the restaurant probably needs a bit of a facelift - but the food is d'lish, and great for a night of gossip with the girls! Pizza's are full to the brim and so so soooooooo delicious!
