Yum I went just the other week with a friend from Wellington - she'd recently visited France and we both loved this Market :)

Haven't I read of late that we are relaxing these regulations or at least starting too?

To me this discussion is crazy, sorry! I lived in Germany for the first 40 years of my life and we have many unpasteurized cheeses. We lived at the border to France and bought many cheeses there! Why does the New Zealand government believe that millions of Europeans can eat cheese from raw milk every day without dropping dead in high numbers but New Zealanders can't?
I simply don't get it!

I believe they have unpasteurised Gruyere and Emmenthal, so get along and have a chat to the foodies there, they'll put you right. Not sure what you mean on unhomogenised though.

Are the french cheeses unhomogenised as well? I would like to find some sources of raw (unhomogenised/unpasteurised) dairy product in NZ. Far superior in nutritional value, as well as taste.

I think the difference in taste is huge! Generally in NZ I believe that all cheese has to be made from unpasteurised milk. I think it's ok to sell imported unpasteurised cheese in New Zealand but not to actually make it here (not sure though).
Pasteurisation may reduce the risk of nasties such as listeria, but it's the bacteria that gives these wonderful cheeses their wide range of flavours. To my mind, I'd happily take the risk! Do try the runny brie and camembert at the market, and as for the Roquefort... (drool)

There's always been debate on this topic in regards to cheese. For more info on pasteurised click on this link to Wiki.

I've heard about unpasteurised cheese, so I assume it's all good then. If so I'll look out for it this weekend.
